Been away

After a nice two week vacation, partly spent in the cool mountains of northern New Mexico, we came back home and heard that Oxford had been suffering for an entire week with extreme heat and dangerously high heat index temperatures.  Our tomato plants sure look like they had taken a beating.  The tomatoes were rotting as soon as they turned ripe.  It was almost like they were cooking on the vine and we ended up with hot sacks of tomato goo.  The basil is indefatigable, though.  The purple basil was covered with flowers.  It makes a lovely and fragrant bouquet.

Our tomatoes simply stopped flowering/fruiting. Hoping that with some cooler weather, they start up again (or maybe not… perhaps it’s better to let summer go). And I did the basil bouquet with some lemon basil I have planted — also added a couple of marigolds. So pretty. Nice idea!
